Nicolas Raymond Artist Statement
Passionate about photography and the visual arts since 2005, always looking for the next flash of inspiration. Canadian by birth, I moved to the United States at the age of 2, returned to Canada for university in Montreal, and came around full circle to settle back on the Maryland side of the Washington DC suburbs where I grew up. Only this time with a whole new appreciation for my surroundings, capturing precious sights on camera, and sharing them with you.
In university I majored in economics and obtained my bachelor’s degree, then felt compelled to change directions by studying graphic design. From there I fell in love with photography and 11 years down the line it remains my number one passion. Faced with many detours and road bumps, I would never take a moment back for the hard lessons learned and a better sense of clarity today.
Alongside my creative ambitions, I also volunteer for the mollusk imaging team at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington DC. Starting in April 2015 with some reservations for the technical standards involved, it has turned into a very rewarding experience for the priceless knowledge I have gained and the wonderful people I crossed paths with. Great source of inspiration to draw upon, and greater motivation to grow as an artist by paying closer attention to details.
