Les Makowski Biography

Painter and sculptor Les Makowski explores a fresh relationship between two and three dimensional art. The themes in majority of his work are related to the human body in the context of geometrical forms and also how dreams and ideas can be translated into the language of sculpture and painting.

The medium he uses in his sculptures is baked clay and various scrap materials. In terms of paintings he generally paints on hard boards with acrylic paints. Most of his work provoke the viewer to various interpretations and comments on the content of each piece of his art. It forces one to be engaged while looking at his work.

One might find there some traces of criticism, some bits of irony or even slight tones of pessimism when it relates to human nature, but it all comes to one conclusion; besides the aesthetic side of art, the viewer should also be stimulated to stop for a second and reflect upon its content. His favorite quote is one made by Picasso : “Art is a lie that enables us to realize the truth.”
