Glen Schofield Biography
Glen has been drawing and painting since he was a child. He had his first lessons at age 10 and continued them through high school. He went to Pratt Institute where he graduated with a BFA, majoring in Illustration. Following Pratt, Glen spent six years as an illustrator in New York City. He also created over one hundred characters for “The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers” animated television series. During this time he also learned computers and created work for IBM, Panasonic, Compaq and some of the top computer companies. As an illustrator Glen created hundreds of illustrations and cartoons for clients such as Pepsi, HBO, Mars Candies, and AT&T. He did features for Airbrush Magazine and The Artists Magazine and was in the Society of Illustrators Show. An assignment for a video game cover lead him towards a new path. Over the past 25 years, Glen has been creating, directing, Art Directing and designing video games. He has won dozens of awards worldwide. He co-founded Sledgehammer Games, an Activision Studio, creating Call of Duty games in 2009. To date, his games have made over $4 billion in revenue.
Throughout his career, Glen has been drawing and painting his own work almost every day. It’s a passion that drives him to create art and evolve as an artist. He has a drawing pad with him everywhere he goes. Over the past 10 years he has taught himself to draw with both hands. As a creative professional for 35 years, Glen has won awards, written articles, done talks worldwide, been in shows, on TV, created art for some of the largest corporations and has been recognized for his creative career in many ways. He has been happily married for 25 years, has three children and lives in Northern California. I paint figuratively in series of paintings using acrylics on canvas. I have a theme in mind and take many photographs to work from as I work out how the composition will best express my idea. The visual layout and variations of texture and lighting are resolved on the computer before the image is committed to canvas. In this series entitled “_after”, historical portraits, ranging from 1460 up to 1907, are integrated with contemporary subjects to create a series of double portraits. Stylistically the paintings are mostly inspired by European society portraits, which, like the modern Facebook page, often present an idealized version of the individual. I wish to comment on the differences in lifestyle over the centuries despite the enduring similarities in genetics.
