George Strasburger Biography

George Strasburger’s work is characterized by a classical style that is used to communicate the contemporary human condition. Mr. Strasburger’s first exposure to art was the large biblical illustrations that were in the church he attended daily as a child. Inspired by the emotions and anatomy there, he continues to express the beauty of the human form, and the narrative of simple scenarios that illustrate existential truths. George Strasburger is influenced by Caravaggio, Bonnat, and Morot. He is also adept with pencil, and spends a large part of his time drawing, as a way to prepare for his paintings and as finished work on their own.

George Strasburger Artist Statement

My work includes painting and drawings that serve two purposes. I’m drawn to the physically beautiful and feel a need to explore it. I find a beauty in the world around me that is at the same time, somber and light. I use all my means to create an image that touches us on an emotional level in a very literal way. I utilize a classical technique, express romantic moods. It is my hope that a viewer may see my characters and scenes, and see their own lives and worlds in a different light. Creating these paintings satisfies a need of mine to live and explore the realities that I see.
