August 2016 Online Exhibition
Cityscapes
“The urban environment is chock-full of… symbols – street signs, lights, arrows, figures and trees… They provide a distinctive sparkle and reality to cityscapes.” ~Sidney Hermel
Welcome to Cityscapes, Fusion Art’s International Online Juried Art Exhibition for August 2016. For this competition artists and photographers worldwide were encouraged to share their artistic vision and interpretation of Cityscapes. According to Merriam-Webster a cityscape is defined as “an artistic representation of a city, an urban environment, a city landscape.” The Cityscapes theme included any art or photography which depicted cities, towns, urban scenes and any related metropolitan subjects. The artwork could range from realism to surrealism to abstraction. All artists and photographers, regardless of location or experience, were encouraged to submit.
We once again received a diverse collection of quality artwork from artists all around the world including the US, Canada, England, India, Ireland, Russia, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates and Spain.
Each month Fusion Art presents awards in two categories: Traditional Art and Digital Art & Photography. The Cityscapes Best in Show winners are Cecily Willis for her watercolor on arches paper, “Frolic Room, Hollywood Blvd.,” and Stephen Baumbach for his photograph, “Glass and Class.” Both Cecily and Stephen are Fusion Art’s Featured Artists for the month of August 2016. For more information about Cecily and Stephen please visit the Featured Artists page.
Other Cityscapes award winners include Second Place winners, Tighe Hanson for his acrylic on canvas, “Speed Limit 45” and Harry Longstreet for his photograph, “Naked Cowboy.” Third Place awards were given to Jack Nixon for his graphite on paper, “The Wrigley, Tribune, and Medinah Spires” and Brian Ashworth for his digital photograph, “Sunset over Manama Bahrain The remaining finalists in the exhibition all exemplify uniquely creative talents and we’re once again honored to showcase their artwork on the Fusion Art website.
As always, we’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the competition participants. While not all the artwork that was submitted was selected for inclusion in the exhibition, this in not necessarily a reflection on any one artist’s talent and/or skill. It takes courage to put your art out there for critique by others and all the artists should be applauded for their efforts. We appreciate all of you sharing your extraordinary talent with us.
For anyone interested in purchasing any of the artwork in the exhibition, please contact the artists directly. Fusion Art does not engage in selling the artwork featured in any of its monthly online exhibitions. All purchase inquiries should be directed to the artist directly. You will find the artist’s website and/or email information below their work.
Thank you for visiting our website and enjoy the exhibition!
