Andrea Cook is the 3-Dimensional Artist Spotlight winning artist for the month of January 2018. She is an Arizona based artist and sculptor. She specializes in textiles with mixed media elements, ceramic, sculpture, and painting. She plays with texture, pattern and repetition to create unity in each unique piece.

Andrea’s Solo Art Exhibition will be featured on the website for the month of January 2018. The gallery will promote Andrea and her work on the Fusion Art website, individual online press releases to hundreds of outlets, email blasts, in online event calendars, art news websites and through the gallery’s extensive social media outlets. Andrea Cook Biography

While many artists focus on one theme, subject, or medium, Andrea Cook creates art that resonates on many levels. Coming from a diverse art education background, Andrea finds that her passion lies in various realms. As a multimedia artist, she specializes in textiles with mixed media elements, ceramic, sculpture, and painting. She plays with texture, pattern and repetition to create unity in each unique piece. While Andrea is not afraid to take risks and experiment, she employs her imagination and inner light to create a connection with her viewer.

Born and raised in Dallas, TX, Andrea discovered her artistic desires early on and received a lot of encouragement to follow her dreams. She was interested in art at an early age and began taking as many summer art classes as possible. She continued art through high school, where she enjoyed jewelry making, metals, ceramics, and printmaking.

Wanting to expand her creative horizons Andrea decided to pursue art at the collegiate level at the University of North Texas in Denton, where she chose to study photography. Soon, however, she transferred to UT El Paso, where she fell in love with sculpture, and switched her major to sculpture and painting. Graduating with honors, Andrea received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Sculpture and Painting, in December of 2004, and was inducted into the Golden Key National Honor Society.

After college, Andrea stayed in El Paso and southern New Mexico for a couple of years and continued to explore different artistic endeavors in her spare time. It was during this time Andrea started the “Garden of Roses” as a large, soft sculpture, temporary installation.

The “Garden of Roses” project was made of hand dyed, painted, or pure fabrics made from canvas, burlap, cotton, muslin, and denim that were then shaped into rose designs ranging in color, shapes, and sizes. Andrea would then mount them on canvas with an archival quality glue.

Andrea loves for her art to be beautiful, colorful and textural, working with pattern and repetition to create unity. She strives for her work to create an illusion and for it to connect to the viewer. She tries to bring out her imagination and inner light in each piece. She continues to work with a variety of techniques, in a wide range of media. Exploration, risk taking, change, and growth have all contributed to the practices that she uses in her work today.

Andrea Cook Artist Statement

The Garden of Roses originally began as a large scale, soft sculpture, temporary installation. Roses have always been my favorite flower. They are so lovely and elegant. However, they only last for a short time. I wanted to find a way to capture their beauty and create a permanent way to enjoy them. My goal with the Garden of Roses collection is to create an illusion that connects with the viewer. I try to share my inner light, passion, and imagination in each artwork. I always have a vision of the completed piece. However, I try to let the work happen naturally.

The Garden of Roses project is composed of hand dyed, painted, or pure fabrics made from canvas, burlap, muslin, denim, and cotton blends. The fabric is dipped into an archival glue and formed into rose designs ranging in shape, size, and color. Each unique design is textural and sculptural, which makes them irresistible to touch!
